History
Located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York City Industries for the Blind, Inc. (NYCIB) is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit company that was founded and incorporated in November of 1995.
Our Mission:
Provide meaningful on-site and off-site employment opportunities to people who are blind or visually impaired in the greater New York City area.
NYCIB was founded in November of 1995 to fill a void left when the last remaining New York City agency providing on-site employment for people who are blind announced they would close their doors for good.
Since that time, more than 350 men and women who are blind or visually impaired have found meaningful training and employment opportunities at NYCIB.
Today, NYCIB is the largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired in the New York City area, the state of New York and the NorthEast region of the United States.
There are approximately 100,000 people registered as legally blind within New York State - approximately half of those living in the NY city metro area. The unemployment rate is over 70% for people who are blind.
