Alphapointe and New York City Industries for the Blind (NYCIB) Merger Update

An exciting development took place effective January 6, 2014 involving the merger of New York City Industries for the Blind in Brooklyn, NY with Alphapointe, located in Kansas City. While the official legal review continues in the New York Attorney General’s office without a certain completion date and court process that may extend for several more weeks, we realized it had become necessary to take an interim step to aid the transition of leadership in New York, ensure a smooth integration of the two enterprises, and provide a more stable working environment for the workforce in New York.

The two agencies have signed an interim management agreement until the merger closes. The NYCIB Board of Directors approved the agreement which allowed Alphapointe to take over the day to day management of the business and do preliminary work to expedite the integration once legal approval is received. The management agreement allowed Rick Bland, CEO of NYCIB, to resign, and begin his role as a consultant to Alphapointe to work with the CEO of Alphapointe, Reinhard Mabry, on some important new business and potential job creation opportunities for the merged agency.

Alphapointe will have on-site management in New York during business hours to provide employees with support and guidance in the integration of the two businesses. This is an exciting time at Alphapointe, and we are looking forward in 2014 to building an even stronger business and reinforcing our mission of employment, services, and job creation for people with vision loss.

We look forward to sharing more good news with you as the merger progress.
